Between compacts and reflex digital cameras, there is an intermediate category, the bridge. Bodies are larger than compacts, but we find all the manual functions, better quality and brighter lenses. And now, there is more often a big zoom.

This year starts with the arrival of Deca-megapixels. So, should we be tempted by the Canon EOS 400D, Nikon D80 and D40X, Olympus E-400, Pentax K10D or Sony Alpha 100? Or how about the D40? Is it enough with its 6 million pixels?

The ideal camera has a wide angle, little noise in high sensitivities, a big screen, and is stabilized and fast. This type of little gem does exist and competition between Canon and Panasonic has been fierce. However, we can also look to more modest and inexpensive models and this is the other good news: there now are good compacts at low prices.

2008 will be a determining year for HD video. Modes are arriving at an unbridled pace on different supports : cassettes (HDV), hard drive, DVD, and flash memory (AVCHD).

The sensor sizes of digital cameras are continuously growing as well as the size of photos. With a digital reflex, it’s therefore difficult to leave the house with just a single 2 GB SD card. Now there are SDHC cards with capacities of 4 and 8 GB. So which is the fastest and what « Class » should we choose?
