Non-Tested Products?

We've taken the liberty of including a few products in this special Christmas 2008 Buyers' Guide that we haven't yet published test results for.
Normally, we would never recommend a product that we hadn't looked at ourselves, but there are one or two things--like the new Canon G10, which we've included in our look at digital cameras--that are still in the lab delivering incredibly positive results.
Rest assured that, even if there isn't a link to a full test right now, we've not included any products that we haven't looked at ourselves, even if the results aren't online just yet.

Whatever digital goodies you're planning on offering your nearest and dearest, our Gift Guide should help make sure nobody ends up disappointed.
You'll find a full test of nearly every one of these products in our various Product Surveys, and you can compare them all in the Product Face-Offs too, but with nearly a hundred monitors under our belt and twice as many cameras, we thought it would be a lot simpler to bring everything together in one place.
We know that it can still be hard to please everybody, so our recommendations for each type of product are split up into five different profiles, so hopefully you'll be able to find one that matches somebody you know.
Our Profiles
Budget BuyerJust because you're on a strict budget doesn't mean you need to settle for second-best. Quite the opposite, in fact: you need to do your research carefully to make your money go as far as it can. Think about exactly what you want from a product, and where you're prepared to make compromises. The aim--as ever--is to pay a fair price and get as much for your money as you can.
Simplicity FirstSome people are just too busy to fight their way through pages of instructions and just want to get on with using their gadgets. They're not necessarily technophobes, but they do want something that's easy to use as soon as you take it out of the back. An intuitive user interface that gives easy access to all of the functions you'll need can go a long way to help an average product stand out from the crowd.
Demanding UserThis is somebody who knows what they want: the best. Rather than making a mad dash for what's new, they're likely to remain skeptical about innovations that have yet to prove their worth. People like this prefer quality over quantity--they aren't necessarily after a product that has a hundred different functions, but want it to be able to perform well at what they'll use it for.
On The GoThese days, we're all on the go more than ever, but some people definitely make a habit of it more than others. Travel is easier than ever before, but more and more people are keen to travel light, so they need light but sturdy equipment with good battery life to keep them on the road for as long as possible. Obviously, not all of the products we test do a lot of moving around--you'd be hard-pushed to go backpacking with a 42'' TV, for instance, so in these cases we've looked at the most feature-packed devices that will be useful wherever you go.
ExpertAlmost by definition, there's no fooling somebody who's an expert in their field. No matter how much glossy marketing speak goes on, somebody like this is just not going to be fooled into buying something that's not up to scratch. Not only do they know which products out there are the best--they can also tell you why, too.
