On the Nikon D60 ...
Our final test is always 30 shots taken in quick succession on our Nikon D60 digital reflex.
With this card, we noticed a considerable slowness from the 11th image on, even though better-performing cards remain constant all the way through to the last shot. Having said that, though, we had feared far worse given the price of this card!

The Transcend 2GB SD card can be found all over the place, and an amazingly low price. We know that the manufacturer offers a whole range of memory cards, all the way up to speeds of 150x, allowing data to be transferred at a blisteringly fast 22.5 MB/s. What about their entry-level products though?
Ordinary data speeds
We weren’t surprised by our test results. In writing photos, the card doesn’t make it beyond 2.6 MB/s, meaning it would take 13 minutes to fill it up. Compare that to around 3 minutes for the very best cards, such as the Verbatil SDHC Class 6.
In reading too, the Transcend 2 GB sits squarely at the bottom of the table with a transfer rate of 8.1 MB/s for typical photos, meaning you would need to leave 4 minutes to copy every file from it if it were full.

Data transfer speeds (MB/s)

-
Very affordable
-
ideal for basic photographic use
-
Slow at both reading and writing
-
Limited performance in burst mode

The price is worth celebrating, at least; you certainly won’t be cheering for its performance, though. It’s slow at transferring files and will hold a good camera back.
