In the era of multimedia and video, the French brand Memup goes against market trends and offers an audio player in USB key format, the Koon.  This ‘’Ultra Slim’’ device available with a 1 and 2 GB storage capacity, can take SD/SDHC cards (up to 8 GB) and has a double jack for the simultaneous connection of two headsets.   Moreover, it’s this characteristic that Memup highlights.

Ergonomics: In hand, we get the impression we are holding one of the first MP3 players.  The design is minimalist, finishing touches are far from exemplary and the screen is minuscule (1.1 inches) compared to the size of the player itself (84x27x10 mm).  In use, the same poor impression persists, that we are back in the “ancient times” of MP3 players.  For example, there is an On/Off button for startup but no ‘’Hold’’.  The interface is also as crude and disorganized as earlier products.  Another detail we should mention is that functioning of the Koon became blocked for no apparent reason.

Audio quality: In terms of sound quality, it’s perfectly up to par with the above characteristics.  Audio restitution is really not that great and certain sounds point out to what extent it’s unrefined.  In addition, audio production is very flat. Another bothersome detail was that in random play the Koon always uses exactly the same playlist and in the same order.

Finishing on a semi-good note for this player: its double jack connection.  However, as the sensitivity of each headset can vary significantly from one model to another, Memup could have offered independent gain control for each output.  This wasn’t the case and if you have headphones that differ greatly, music can either be too load for one and too soft for the other (unless there is a separate volume control on the headphones themselves).  In other words, it’s something seriously lacking on a player which proposes use with more than one listener.

- Double Jack (3.5mm)

- Ergonomics – Interface

- Audio quality

- Transfer speed

- Autonomy

This player’s basic principle of sharing music appears interesting; however, the quality of sound restitution will not really encourage you to share your favorite audio tracks.
