Last month the webcam market took a significant blow and there are two reasons for this.  First of all, more and more screens have integrated webcams.  Second, we are of the strong opinion that most current webcams on the market, with a few exceptions, are more or less the same offering a minimum of functions.  There is often no autofocus to do away with manual adjustment, poor night time rendering, and sound reproduction deforms voices.

It’s true that as we test more and more of these products, the situation looks a bit bleak.  And we can only ask when the webcam market will have more complete models competing to catch our eye instead of the current rather mediocre choices.

This is a very quick evaluation here.  This Pleomax webcam, a new brand distributed by Samsung, isn’t too interesting and it didn’t take long to see that this was simply a poor product.

The design is quite attractive and compact; however it doesn’t make up for the webcam’s many defects.

Day rendering offers very little detail, there is no gradation in blacks and colors are greenish.  While your partner is still recognizable with good lighting, at night or in darker situations he/she simply becomes invisible.  You have to press your face up to the screen to barely recognizable the image is so strongly affected by noise.

Finally, don’t move too much because afterglow is very pronounced.

in the end, maybe the price is as low as its meager capabilities…
