The SHE9700 are isolated intra-ear headphones. These mini-speakers have an announced bandwidth that sounds rather surprising as it ranges from 6 Hz to 23.5 KHz (note that audible frequencies for the human ear, young and in good health, goes from 18 Hz to 20 KHz). As usual, Philips doesn't hesitate to try impress us with its announcements.
Ergonomics: We are also used to Philips releasing very elegant products. The SHE9700 is no exception: they are sober, simple and stylish. It follows that these headphones come with an extension cable, 3 pairs of ear buds of different sizes as well as an imitation leather pouch. Although this last accessory seems a bit big for simple earphones, it has the advantage of being able to additionally carry a small portable player. Finally, in use the SHE9700 are light and not too encumbering.
Audio quality: First of all, you will have to choose the proper earbud for your ear in order to best hear basses. After that, sound reproduction is quite nice: it’s rather homogenous and well balanced throughout the entire spectrum. You will especially notice the good audio quality if you have always used the standard headphones that come with your player. On the other hand, sound lacks a bit of clarity, assertiveness as well as some depth in basses. Also on a sourer note, the cable isn’t isolated against rubbing which eventually made it to our ears. This turned out to be quite bothersome when we had to move around the office.
