This television is the 47 inch version of the 42 inch model, the 42PFL5603H, which we tested.
Characteristics, the panel and circuitry are identical and only brightness may vary slightly which minimally affects contrast. According to manufacturers (and our tests confirm), results from one diagonal size can easily be extrapolated to identical models of bigger or smaller sizes.
Note that its bigger diagonal size can slightly accentuate the defects we noticed with the 42 inch version’s rescaling of SD sources (digital cable, DivX, game consoles, etc.).
There is also another model with a 37 inch diagonal in Philips’ catalogue. It has a different panel from the 42 and 47 inch and its response time is 1 ms higher. Therefore, our test isn’t valid for this TV.

- Very deep black
- Image adjustment help
- HD compatible digital tuner
- Gamma dynamic control cannot be deactivated
- SD rescaling is very disappointing
- Menus are a bit out of date and impractical

With an image improvement option permanently activated and mediocre display of SD sources, the PFL5603H leaves something to be desired.
