LG 37LT75
[ Vincent Lheur | Test date: 2008-04-03 ] Send to a friend
This television is the 37 inch version of the 42 inch 42LT75 which went through our battery of tests.  Like its bigger brother, it has a 160 GB hard drive that enables recording up to 86h of programming (depending on the speed of the channel).

The two TVs are identical or at least very similar including the definition of 1366 x 768 pixels.  The 42LT75 is thus one of the last televisions above 40 inches that doesn’t go Full HD.  We are amongst those who normally prefer HD Ready on 27 inch models and then higher resolutions on bigger sizes.

Another interesting point is that even if the 37 inch diagonal seems to have gone out of style, the 37LT75 has an attractive diagonal size / price ratio.  It’s often barely more expensive than its 32 inch version, the 32LT75.

In addition, if tests revealed particularly good behavior of this television in color fidelity (except blacks that are slightly washed out), we also noticed a weakness in the rescaling of DVDs.  It’s therefore better when possible (in other words with more recent players and with the product manual in hand) to set your DVD player to do the rescaling in 720p.

Characteristics, the panel and circuitry are identical and only brightness may vary slightly which minimally affects contrast.  According to our tests and manufacturers, results from one diagonal size can easily be extrapolated to identical models of bigger or smaller sizes.

PlusesMinuses
Integrated digital player (160 GB hard drive) Contrast and depth of black are too low (a recurrent defect on IPS panels)
Very good colors Rescaling of SD sources slightly lacks sharpness (DVDs, etc.)
Integrated TNT Tuner (although SD and not HD) Narrow viewing angles
This TV/digital recorder offers nice images but blacks are too grayish. Rescaling of SD sources isn't excellent and we prefer leaving this job up to the DVD player.
